DIDCOT TO OXFORD GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY 175TH ANNIVERSARY
15-Jun-2019 – 15-Jun-2019
Didcot Railway Centre is just one of the places to enjoy on this day as we celebrate the opening of the Didcot to Oxford branch line of the Great Western Railway in June 1844. This photograph shows Fire Fly class locomotive ‘Centaur’ of the type that would have hauled the first trains on the line.
There will be events at or near all five stations along the line – Didcot, Appleford, Culham, Radley and Oxford
At Didcot Railway Centre:
• Engines in steam
• Refreshments
• Live music
• Children’s activities
• Locomotives which served on the Didcot to Oxford line
• A special display of photos and archive materials
• Railway timeline displays on hoardings
• A Victorian theme in the Transfer Shed
• A special display at the Oxford Road Station end of the site
See website link below for ticket information, full details of other activities and travel between stations.
